Lessons are 30-, 45-, or 60-minutes depending on the student's age, level, and interest. Weekly lessons are recommended. Lessons are offered in my home studio in Coon Rapids and virtually via Zoom.
During lessons, students work on learning new repertoire, music theory, and proper playing or singing techniques with the teacher. Outside of lessons, it is the student's responsibility to practice and prepare the assigned repertoire for the lesson.
For scheduling lessons, I provide a form for the family to complete to request days/times that work with their schedule and fall within studio hours. Once a time has been confirmed, that slot is reserved exclusively for that student.
In addition to private lessons, students have the opportunity to join group theory lessons 4-5 times per year, to engage in learning with students of a similar age and skill level. This provides students the chance to make friends who are also excited about learning music, to practice playing duets or trios, and to provide performance opportunities in a safe space. The group lessons are 60-minutes and focus on music theory skills including: how to read/write music, improving rhythm, ear-training skills, music history, and lots more! Students work through a music theory curriculum that takes about a year to complete each "level." By the end of the curriculum, students are well equipped to take their passion for music to a college level education or to create music on their own.
